Day 1: Arrival in Bogotá, City Tour
We welcome you at the El Dorado Airport. Get your first impression of Bogotá from the Montserrat Mountain, offering a spectacular view of the city. Discover the historic city center La Candelaria; visit the Gold Museum, Plaza Bolivar, and some beautiful churches.
Day 2: Zipaquira & Villa de Leyva
On the way to Villa de Leyva you will visit the world’s biggest underground cathedral in the salt mines of Zipaquira. Visit the beautiful Plaza de los Comuneros, where Colombia’s first movement for independence took place in 1781. Travel on to one of Colombia’s most picturesque towns. Villa de Leyva is a national landmark. With its white houses, tiled roofs, and centuries-old cobblestones on the Plaza Mayor it is a testimony of the colonial times, when it served as a place of recreation for the Spanish colonialist.
Day 3: Villa de Leyva, Puente Boyacá, Flight to Santa Marta
In the morning you have time to discover the town on your own, before going back to Bogotá. On the way you stop at the bridge “Puente Boyacá” where on August 7th, 1819 the decisive battle for Colombia’s independence took place. You will travel by plane right into Nobel-prize winner Gabriel García Márquez’ magical realism. You arrive in Santa Marta and check into a hotel in the historic center of town.
Day 4: Tayrona National Park
Today you visit the Tayrona National Park, one of the country’s most beautiful and diverse national parks. It is where the Sierra Nevada meets the Caribbean. Walk through tropical forests in the foothills of the Sierra to one of Colombia’s most gorgeous bays, Cabo San Juan del Guía. You have time to swim or discover different bays in the area. In the evening, you return to Santa Marta.
Day 5: Cartagena de Indias, San Felipe de Barajas
In the morning you travel along the scenic coastal road to Cartagena de Indias, one of the continent’s most beautiful cities. On a tour of the city you visit the monastery on the La Popa Mountain and enjoy the amazing views of the city. Afterwards you continue to the San Felipe de Barajas Fortress, the biggest fortress that the Spanish built in South America, before you visit on foot the many beautiful colonial alleys, plazas and churches of the old town, which has been a part of the UNESCO World Heritage since 1984.
Day 6: Rosario Islands (optional)
You have a free day in Cartagena.
Optional excursion: Visit the archipelago and underwater national park of Islas del Rosario by speedboat on a guided group tour. Also includes a stop at Isla del Sol where you can enjoy beautiful Caribbean beaches. At about 4 pm you will be back in Cartagena, where your guide awaits you to take you back to your hotel.
Day 7: Return Flight
Enjoy your last morning in Cartagena, before your guide will take you to the airport for your flight.
