Visit the impressive Galapagos Islands (one of the four Ecuadorian regions) and explore their amazing variety of flora and fauna. During your 5-day hotel based tour you will get to know the Archipelago’s nature and wildlife while being accommodated on Santa Cruz Island. This island is the Archipelago’s center since the nearby airport island Baltra ensures a connection to Ecuador’s mainland. Santa Cruz’ highland is very fertile and used for agriculture. From this island, the next days you explore Galapagos’ further islands and admire the biodiversity, nature and wildlife, for example by snorkeling or on hikes.

It is always a good idea to have an eye on our Galapagos Last-Minute offers!

In the morning, you will fly to the “Enchanted Islands” and your guide will pick you up at the airport on Baltra Island. You will take the bus (approx. five minutes) to cross Baltra and take the ferry across the Itabaca Channel to Santa Cruz Island. You will visit the highlands of this island (please have your shoes and rain jacket ready). En route, you will stop at the Twin Crater. These two large pit craters along the road from Puerto Ayora to Baltra were caused by the collapse of empty magma chambers. A circular trail to the larger crater passes through the beautiful Scalesia forest, which is an excellent place to observe terrestrial birds, including Vermilion Flycatchers, Short-eared Owls, the Galapagos Dove, and several finch species. Afterwards you will visit one of the reserves, which are known as roaming grounds for the Galapagos Giant tortoises. They cross the reserve on their permanent migrations from the coast to the highlands, making it one of the very few places where is possible to see these enigmatic animals in their natural habitat. You will also have a chance to walk through lava tunnels before having lunch at the restaurant.
In the afternoon, you will head to Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz’ principal town for the check-in at the hotel.

On both days, you will take a boat to one of the following islands: Bartholomew, South Plaza,  North Seymour or Santa Fe Island. The uninhabited islands are what makes Galapagos so special: animals that can only be found on these specific islands, endemic plant species, birds that get so close you can almost touch them (please do not though…), and sea lions sleeping in the sun. You will see vast selection of wildlife including blue footed boobies, marine turtles and marine iguanas as well as white-tip reef sharks or Galapagos sharks.

* Please note that the actual island visit depends on the schedule authorized by the national park authorities and availability.

In the morning, you and your guide will head to Tortuga Bay, which offers white coral sand, red mangroves, and a tidal flat with lots of shore birds. On the way you will be surrounded by opuntia cacti, palo santo trees, and matasarno trees. Once you reach the beach, you can see marine iguanas, colorful reef fish, white-tip sharks, rays and the beach’s namesake, sea turtles.

In the afternoon, you will make your way to the headquarters of the Galapagos National Park Service. Also you will find the recently renovated Charles Darwin Research Station which is located in Puerto Ayora. There you will get the chance to deepen and broaden your knowledge about the Nationalpark. You will find a fascinating interpretation center and can wander through the tortoise rearing program facilities.
